Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the awesome people of The Broke and the Bookish
Gotta love Top 10 Tuesday because if you don’t follow me on Goodreads or just want to wade through and find just the ones worth reading then here are 10 books that I’ve read recently that I have 5 stars to because they are just that awesome.
The Winner’s Kiss (The Winner’s Trilogy #3) by Marie Rutkoski
Holy swoon worthy emotions! If you have not read this trilogy yet then drop everything and read it. I can’t recall a book that has affected me as much as these three books have. This last book was no different, it was pure awesome sauce. My sister says that Marie Rutkoski KNOWS how to write emotion. I would have to agree because I’ve laughed, swooned, cried, cringed all along while reading these books and the third? I cried by chapter 11. True story…
Rebel of the Sands (Rebel of the Sands #1) by Alwyn Hamilton
Oh, sweet baby tadpoles! What an adventure! I mean…WOW! This was an incredible book! A book I completely couldn’t put down from the first page I was absolutely hooked. It was an adventure from the get-go. A very strong female character, strong completely swoon-worth male character, with an amazing cast of strong characters in so many aspects. I loved this books from page one. I absolutely cannot wait till book two!
Warrior Witch (The Malediction Trilogy #3) by Danielle L. Jensen
Anyone who knows me, knows that is trilogy is also on my “must own” list. I was lucky enough to get an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of this book (comes out 5/3/16). This trilogy is something completely new in the realm of fantasy. It’s about trolls. And I absolutely love the imagination, world building, fantasy creating, just everything of this trilogy. This last book was a perfect ending to the trilogy and it rips your heart out. I so look forward to more from this author!
The Vanishing Throng (The Falconer #2) by Elizabeth May
This is yet another book that I was lucky enough to get an ARC to. This trilogy is a steampunk (a subgenre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery). And I believe it was my first. Interesting and new concept and it was completely enjoyable. I am loving this trilogy, I love the devastation, hardship and realm of the fey involved in this story. Anyone who loves stories about the fey will love this as well as the subgenera of steampunk as well.
Me Before You (Me Before You #1) by Jojo Moyes
You know it’s been scientifically proven that tears are very important to the human body and soul (helps us see, lowers stress, removes toxins, helps elevate, kills bacteria, helps us see etc.). So if you’re in need of a good cry, this is the perfect book for you. Another thing that I loved about this book besides the story, was the discussion of a topic that I found myself at war with. Religiously I felt one way, take that out of the equation and I felt another way. I could see both sides so well and couldn’t find a middle ground. I LOVE books like that! Without giving anything away, if you have yet to read this book, READ IT! Especially before the movie comes out in June!
These Vicious Masks (These Vicious Masks #1) by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas
Jane Austen meets X-Men. Seriously that is exactly what this book is. Add adventure, mystery, and romance and you’ve got an amazing story. I’ve wanted this book since the moment I heard about it. And it did not disappoint. I love the idea that the publishing company Swoon Reads puts manuscripts on the internet for the public to read and it’s THE PEOPLE who decide on which books are “good enough” to publish. How can you go wrong there?! Without giving too much about this book away just know it was completely fun and worth it! It’s a must read!
Burning Glass (Burning Glass #1) by Kathryn Purdie
I am completely shocked and at a loss as to why people aren’t liking this book! This was one of those few books that I could actually get through during my pregnancy. At the time I couldn’t get through ANYTHING, NOTHING could hold my attention but this one was a amount a select few! I’m shocked it hasn’t got the highest of ratings! But you know what? I don’t care, because I still loved it! A girl who can sense emotion sent to protect and evil emperor, throw in a rebellion, two brothers fighting for the throne and a girl and you’ve got this book. I loved it. Boom. There. Done. End of Story.
Ruin and Rising (The Grisha #3) by Leigh Bardugo
I’m honestly tempted to actually take off a star and give it a lower rating. Why? Because I have never been so upset and disappointed in who the main character ends up with! There has never been a book that I wasn’t satisfied with who they ended up with, BUT THIS ONE! It’s been funny to see that a majority of people agree with me in that aspect, I think I know of ONE person who was okay with it but NOT THE REST OF US POOR SOULS! However the overall idea of the story and what not was fantastic. The characters were so real I loved it.
The Wrath and the Dawn (The Wrath and the Dawn #1) by Renee Ahdieh
Many of you have heard me talk about this book but seriously. A retelling of A Thousand and One Nights (Or Arabian Nights)? BRILLIANT! She took this tiny story and thickened it to this amazing series that has depth and meat in the story. I cannot wait for book two. The author does an AMAZING job of painting a vivid picture throughout this story. The colors, sights, smells were so tangible throughout this story! It was brilliantly well done. It just a a fantastically captivating tale in and of itself. I feel the author did the original story justice that will make you want to jump right into book two.
Silver Eve (Guardians of Tarnec #2) by Sandra Waugh
Alright all you fantasy lovers out there. This is a series for you. Fans of Juliet Marillier will also love these books. Guys, seriously! Why can’t I scream louder about how fantastic these books are?! You’ve got everything that makes an a good story great. Action, fantastical creatures and people, stories of destiny, strong swoon worthy men who are actually GOOD GUYS, relatable characters, adventure and so on. With each book telling it’s own tale that has an overall story with a need of each character you’ve got books that you’ll love. I am anxiously awaiting book three and more by this author!
I hope you enjoyed and found some new books to read! let me know which books you’ve recently read that you gave 5 stars to!
