that needs a standing ovation! (in no particular order)
Katherine’s place is the same as any woman’s—on the shelf next to the dresses and bolts of cloth. When she’s sold to a warlock, life grows even bleaker. Her new owner is as old and rancid as he is cruel, driving her to do the unthinkable: run.
Nothing prepared her for being on her own. And she’s definitely unprepared for the warlocks hunting her down. But she must stay one step ahead because if caught, the best she can hope for is death.
This is a quick novella of I think 100 pages. It’s a companion to Janeal Falor’s book You Are Mine and can I just say that I LOVE this series. I would own them. They are clean, cute, fun, and the romance is sweet.
This is a quick background story of a character that you get to know about in the first book to this series You Are Mine. It’s are to get into without giving too much away if you haven’t read You Are Mine.
Needless to say this was just a fun read to understand and enjoy more of the original series. It’s clean and wonderful and makes your heart flutter.
Language: mild (if any, which I don’t recall any)
Sexual Content: mild
Violence: mild (even men using magic again innocents, men not being nice to women)
When young widow Catherine Briton is washed ashore, the sole survivor of a violent shipwreck, all she wants is to go home to London. But injured as she is, she can’t escape when a shadowy stranger rescues her and takes her to his castle—where she’s healed with suspicious, almost magical speed.
The more time Catherine spends in the castle, the more her curiosity rises where her fiercely handsome new “master,” Gerard, is concerned. As she begins to investigate, though, her discoveries only bring more questions. It seems Gerard isn’t the only one on the island keeping secrets…
The small town is full of strange mysteries and townspeople who know more than they should about her. And when a hulking beast that stalks the nearby hills and valleys catches up to her, Catherine must figure out what’s going on before it’s too late.
I got this from Netgalley and it really looked awesome and couldn’t wait to get started! It seemed like it would be something the author Juliet Marillier would’ve come up with. Kind of like a Beauty and the Beast story.
This version of whatever was great! I like that there wasn’t a beastly character that it was simply a while island under some kind of spell or curse and this one person (Catherine) is the only person to have made it to the island for 100+ years. When the widow Catherine tries to get back to her home to take care of a children that were given up, she is told she won’t be able to ever leave the island because nobody can get past the reefs.
Catherine is cool, not simpering and yet not hardened just a strong woman with a moral, gentle side and I liked that. She was feisty and strong in the sense that she was able to stand her ground.
What I didn’t know was in the book and that I thought kind of dumb was the “adult content” I understand this was a romance I just didn’t know it was gonna be THAT kind of romance which only happened ONCE but still. I didn’t like that part of the spell/curse was this main “master” character guy named Gerard, when he uses his gifts/power he becomes more base and more desirable to whomever he is around and has a hard time controlling his….desires………HUH?! that was kinda stupid for me but whatever I still enjoyed the book even though I rolled my eyes at this part of the book.
Overall if you like gothic, mysteries, with romance than this would be more for you than it was for me. I still liked it even though I opted on skipping a certain…scene. BLAH!
Sexual Content: heavy (1 sex scene, talk of having an affair, innuendos of seduction, talk of rapes)
Violence: moderate (talk of domestic violence, a creature killing people, story telling of women who have been raped-not detailed)
Two hearts, one kiss…
Faye’s soul-mate is everything she should hate—an Angel, an outcast, an enemy. Ashe is just one more imperfection in her life that somehow makes everything… perfect.
Until he’s murdered.
With the only person she loves ripped away, Faye sets out to avenge Ashe’s death. The task seems impossible, until she finds Lor—an Angel who looks nearly identical to Ashe’s killer. Arrogant and hot-headed, Lor is everything Ashe wasn’t. But Lor is connected to her soul-mate’s past, and Faye needs him to find the killer—even if Lor is potentially deadly.
But when Faye discovers that Ashe’s past isn’t as black and white as she thought, she faces an impossible choice: Give up the hunt, and risk the lives of others. Or continue pursuing Ashe’s murderer, and forfeit the lives of everyone in her family—including herself.
This book I got from Netgalley and it sounded cool and interesting so I thought I’d give it a try!
Prolog was interesting, caught my attention then it got a little off and I couldn’t stay focused on the book. The writing wasn’t enough to keep me in the characters seemed lame and nothing exciting but I kept at it.
It wasn’t until I was half way through that it got interesting. So needless to say I finished it but it just wasn’t something…AMAZING that I would want to yell to everyone! HEY COME READ THIS BOOK! you know?
We don’t really get beyond Faye’s bedroom and into the outside world and that seemed off to me but whatever, I think I kept waiting for Ashe to pop back in somewhere but he doesn’t. And Faye trying to be angry and seek revenge didn’t really fit her (I thought) I don’t know the whole thing just seemed off. It’s not that it was horrible just wasn’t the most exciting thing out there! so I give it about a 3/5 stars because I finished it, it got me interesting even though it took me half of the book to get there.
Overall it was ok if you want an easy quick read.
Sexual Content: mild
Violence: moderate (PG talk of killing and a character having to fight for it’s life)
