Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.
Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the clutches of another.
While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.
As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed.
This is their story…
I saw this floating around the book blogging community and the title and cover intrigued me. So I’m just going to throw this out there that this is NOT YA this is more NA or older.
Meet Sarai who is a 23 year old woman that has spent the last 9 years of her life as a prisoner to a drug lord in Mexico after being sold by her own mother who is a drug addict and a whore. Sarai is damaged. After constantly being subjected to horrors that nobody should be subjected to, her feelings for most things aren’t there anymore.
After she miraculously escapes, she finds herself being “saved” by a cold blooded assassin name Victor.
Victor is also damaged. Knowing no other life than the one he has which deals with killing “bad people” he understands that his kind of life allows for no mistakes and no future with anyone. I really liked that his character developments and feelings were slow coming, that he remained true to his character and not this night/day change all because of one person.
I appreciated the slow moving plot and story. Oh, don’t get me wrong this books is filled with action, suspense, drama, danger, romance mystery etc. But it moved at such a pace that was consistent and entertaining. There were lots of times I felt like I was watching a movie in my head it was awesome.
Overall this was a very entertaining story.
