Cover Thoughts: It’s really pretty, I like the colors and this is something that would totally catch my eye.
A twist of fate . . .
Devon Ravenel, London’s most wickedly charming rake, has just inherited an earldom. But his powerful new rank in society comes with unwanted responsibilities . . . and more than a few surprises. His estate is saddled with debt, and the late earl’s three innocent sisters are still occupying the house . . . along with Kathleen, Lady Trenear, a beautiful young widow whose sharp wit and determination are a match for Devon’s own.
A clash of wills . . .
Kathleen knows better than to trust a ruthless scoundrel like Devon. But the fiery attraction between them is impossible to deny – and from the first moment Devon holds her in his arms, he vows to do whatever it takes to possess her. As Kathleen finds herself yielding to his skillfully erotic seduction, only one question remains:
Can she keep from surrendering her heart to the most dangerous man she’s ever known?
I picked this book up because I needed a book to listen to on my long drive from Florida to Mineral Springs, North Carolina. When I’m driving I need something simple to catch my attention because I drive through the night. With three kids ages 6 and under, driving through the night is the only way to go.
So I need a good book to capture my attention and keep me awake.
As an audio book, I really enjoyed it. I felt the narrator did a great job because I am very picky about my narrators. They can either make or break a book for me. So I was able to get lost in the story and enjoy this narrator.
This book started off sooooooo good, I really enjoyed the background, era, the history and the back story of these characters.
I love romances that actually have a story, and this to me actually had a story. A story of a woman named Kathleen who lost everything when her husband died and left her with her sisters to care for with no way to care for them and now she has this new guy coming in to try to sell her and her sisters off as well as the place she and her sisters called home. Or so she thought.
I really enjoyed the clashing between Kathleen and Devon and was totally sucked in by their chemistry. I did find myself, however, rolling my eyes a lot especially when it comes to sexual tension. I’ve never enjoyed listening or really reading how sexy a character thinks of another especially when the author over does it. Seriously? how many times do I need to hear about some guys thighs or a lady’s supple lips? blah. MOVE ON TO THE STORY WILL YA!? sheesh! anyway.
I really enjoyed the character development and there were many characters that the author actually took the time to focus and develop which I greatly appreciated than the sexual tension between two specific characters.
Something I felt was REALLY smart of this author and this particular series was the author built up this story and as it’s playing out, she started another which got me totally invested in that character and her story. So it set up and had you wanting to read the second book. It finished the first story nicely and set you up to grab book two to continue the story of the next character.
Overall I really enjoyed the book and felt that the sex that didn’t come till way later in the book wasn’t necessary and this could’ve been so much better without it!
