Why I Picked It Up: Because it’s Kelley Armstrong and I love her writing and her books and I read practically anything by her, plus the book sounded AWESOME!
Casey Duncan once killed a man and got away with it. Since then she’s become a talented police detective, tethered only to her job, her best friend, Diana, and the occasional evening with her sexy, no-strings-attached ex-con lover, Kurt. But then Diana’s abusive ex finds her again, despite all Casey has done to help her disappear. And Casey’s own dark past begins to catch up with her. The two women need to run—and Diana’s heard of a place where they won’t be found, a town especially for people like them…
I like mystery and thrillers as long as it’s got all the components I like in a book! This had it! so why only three stars? well….
I really did like the main character Casey. She’s strong, a little crazy, but she’s pretty fearless and I liked that. She’s a really likable character. However she is still flawed but not in the ways or enough to not like her.
The characters in general however, I liked and then lost interest in.
I romance started of GREAT it had a nice undertone so it didn’t overwhelm the story which I liked but then when it did come together it was hot and fast and then I just lost interest in them and probably won’t pick up the rest of the series because of it. I don’t care for that kind nor to read about all the sex they have. gross.
The mystery and thriller part of it was great! I LOVED the idea of a town run by people and who are in the town and why. I loved the murders and trying to figure out “who dun it” it was great.
I really liked the main character Casey and Diana her best friend I thought was cool but got annoying pretty quick as the author let this best friends’ true colors show. Yikes!
I really enjoyed the narrative of this story, especially how it starts out. Brilliant!
Overall if you’re looking for a good narrative with a great idea for a story than you’d like this one, however for me the romance was disappointing after a while.
