Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the awesome people of The Broke and the Bookish
This is a freebie so I decided to do 10 books that I just could. not. finish. I’m one of those people that if I can’t get through it for one reason or another then, there are “plenty of fish in the sea” it’s worked for me so far. And I’m okay with that.
WARNING– this is going to be an HONEST post about what exactly it was that made me dislike and mark DNF in this book. I’m not trying to hate on an author just the book. I’m sorry if this makes you not happy.
When Lola came out I started reading it and ended up putting it down. I felt the author had an agenda she wanted to push and took time to push it that really had nothing to do with the story. Plus Lola was annoying and immature. Also, I felt Lola’s reason for remaining angry and hurt to bring in the “tension” between her and Cricket was beyond stupid.
This was a HIGHLY anticipated book and I was willing to give this one a chance. After waiting a bit to see how the reviews went I decided to take the plunge and read it for myself. I’m always willing to give an author another chance.
This one was beyond annoying. I could NOT get through the sappiness of Isla and Josh that I just couldn’t take it anymore! Plus it was just….lamesauce. The overall writing wasn’t that good. oh well. I still enjoyed Anna!
This is a pretty popular book and read it on recommendation.
The reason for me not being able to finish was simply, it didn’t hold my interest. It was very slow for me. I made it half way through before I put it down.
I’m not going to lie, I look forward to the movie adaptation of this book but I don’t think I could get through this if I tried again.
I kept hearing about this book when the LAST book came out. It sounded amazing! I picked it up-obviously.
However the book was so slow, so long winded I have no idea how this got so popular! I don’t mind a good slow pace but there was no reason for the slow pace in this one. The main character practically lived at the library with nothing happening! Plus the romance happened so fast it lacked any fun or mystery to it. So I put it down.
I was told this was a MUST read. I don’t mind British humor. However, add that to this story of pure weird sci-fi and I couldn’t finish it! I didn’t even get far! I couldn’t keep up with what the heck was going on and what the humor was. When I tried watching the movie? Fell asleep within the first 30 mines of it.
GRANTED I tried to read this over 10 years ago. And interestingly enough this is the book that was chosen for bookclub. So, I will attempt it again with low expectations and see how it goes this time around.
I picked this series up (first book being A Shade of Vampire) when Facebook kept recommending it to me. It got A TON of readers and GREAT reviews.
First book was fine and interesting. But I quit in the middle of this one. When the main vampire goes nuts and almost rapes and kills a girl and the main female character forgives him-that’s when I cut it off and said-OH NO SHE DIDN’T. It to me was an example of a toxic relationship that I just was not willing to see as “fiction.” I’ve never been in one but I know it’s real and I won’t be okay with it.
Another pretty popular series. When like book 7? was coming out? Probably wouldn’t have finished the series if it’s that long anyway.
I started it and it was fine TILL the author decided to put in some incredibly inappropriate content (according to me). I don’t care if teens are “doing it” I know not all of them are and nor do I WANT TO READ IT!
It was so gross and disappointing that I just would not give the rest of the book a try. Nope.
I read this when it first came out. A long time ago.
I am grateful that Stiefvater has improved in her writing skills and I’ve read several of her other books and enjoyed some. I am always willing to give an author another chance. ALWAYS.
This however was just….stupid-to me. It was beyond sappy, chessy and ridiculous that I couldn’t get through it! Plus I’m glad I didn’t I had someone spoil it for me. yeah. not for me.
This was just beyond weird. It gave me nightmares, it was long and just unpleasant! This author has a really imaginative imagination or a twisted one.
I love post-apocalyptic survival type books but this? this was beyond weird.
I creeped me out so much plus I just didn’t like the overall-everything about it I just couldn’t finish it. I’m shocked it was so long and it’s a trilogy!
Oh, Reboot…. I had such high hopes.
I marked this one DNF and YET marked it as READ and reviewed it because I quit 15 pages from the end.
Oh, I totally did.
I couldn’t take the relationship between Wren and Callum. The whole tough-girl/clueless-guy pairings just isn’t my thing. I felt Callum was a sappy GIRL not a boy to help maintain and bring back Wren’s humanity. I kept at it. I could’ve finished it but I just didn’t want to. Didn’t like their relationship to the point I didn’t finish it EVEN 15 pages from the end. Oh well.
