Jane Austen meets X-Men in this gripping and adventure-filled paranormal romance set in Victorian London.
England, 1882. Evelyn is bored with society and its expectations. So when her beloved sister, Rose, mysteriously vanishes, she ignores her parents and travels to London to find her, accompanied by the dashing Mr. Kent. But they’re not the only ones looking for Rose. The reclusive, young gentleman Sebastian Braddock is also searching for her, claiming that both sisters have special healing powers. Evelyn is convinced that Sebastian must be mad, until she discovers that his strange tales of extraordinary people are true—and that her sister is in graver danger than she feared.
I’ve been on a good run! I’ve read some amazing books recently! WHOOT!
I LOVE this time period, the gowns, the balls, the society, the rules, it just makes for a fantastic setting in any book!
This story follows Evelyn and her sister Rose. Rose is a nurse and in society that’s a bit of a ” no no” especially when their mother is trying to get them married off. Evelyn detests society and it’s rules and takes every opportunity to let people know that. Rose on the other hand is the “gentler” of the two. However she LOVES to practice nursing and word gets around how good she is at it.
At a ball Evelyn are introduced to a dark and brooding Sebastian Braddock. He then tells Evelyn of these powers that both she and her sister Rose have. Well boy does Evelyn think the worst of Braddock along with how he is nuts!
However, when Rose goes missing Evelyn finds that she must find her, without her parents help and on her own. That’s when the ever lovely Mr. Kent comes riding in to say he will do whatever it takes to help Evelyn find her sister. But then so did Sebastian Braddock. hmmm
Though the adventures of trying to find Rose we find out more about Sebastian Braddock and some interesting things about Kent that makes you wonder who is the good guy.
I loved the twist and turns of the story I loved the characters as well as the setting (I think I mentioned that already), I loved the paranormal side to it, and I loved the romance. It was just an overall fun fun fun story! I cannot wait for book two! GAH! I thought it was a standalone…nope….grrrrr…
