After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.
Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.
I can’t believe I made it through this book! I can’t believe I finally read it!
Okay, I’m going to be honest. This book took FOREVER to get going. I understand that the author had A LOT of build up he had to do in order for the reader to understand it all. I do, I get it. I just can’t believe I actually plowed through it and did it! Now, I AM REALLY glad I did!
I see now, why all the hype. It’s a great book! It’s a fabulous rendition of an alien invasion apocalypse!
The author did a fabulous job with all the MANY characters. Keeping their voices unique and separate. Creating a diversity of characters and any and every individual could find one to relate to.
I loved the stuggles, the lack of humanity, the twist and turns of the story, the characters trying to find the last of their humanity, the rough and rawness of the struggle for the planet and the humans. I felt this book has something for everyone in here. I just thought for the most part it was indeed fabulous.
I will not deny again, that I struggled to get through the first….what… 150+ pages before it STARTED to get good! I mean really. But then again, I get it. So how do I fault an author with that?
I will say this though…..the turning of one specific character…to me. there was no real struggle after a choice was made. I keep thinking and wondering in reality would there still be a struggle? Because that was although sweet with this specific character, at the same time, disappointing. For me.
Overall: There were GREAT things about this book that I’m still conflicted with what rating I should give it!
Sexual Content: mild (some kissing)
Violence: moderate (killing scenes not too graphic, post fighting scenes)
