Cover Thoughts: Eh, sure. It doesn’t make sense really but it works. It seems adult-ish. Not really eye catching though.
The fifth book and the exciting conclusion to bestselling author Kelley Armstrong’s “impossible-to-put-down” Cainsville series, in which she mixes hard-hitting crime writing with phenomenal world-building to create a brand of fiction all her own.
Olivia Jones must make a choice. Caught between two rival supernatural forces, Liv was granted a brief period in which to make her decision. Now that time has run out. Whichever side she chooses, someone she loves will pay. Her lover, Ricky. Gabriel Walsh, the man she knows she cannot, must not love. Her parents, already trapped in prison. And now there is a new, terrifying power rising – one that doesn’t distinguish between good and evil intentions. It feeds on chaos and destroys without mercy. Unless Liv acts fast, no one will survive. In this gripping thriller, international bestselling author Kelley Armstrong brings the Cainsville series to a powerful, richly rewarding climax.
Let me just say, this has been one of MAYBE 5 series I’ve waited for each book and immediately read each book as they’ve come out hungrily. Also, may I say I am beyond happy with the closure of this book. I am satisfied with a number of books and content in each book to make it a good, solid, story. It wasn’t drawn out, it was just that. perfect.
If you haven’t had the chance to read this series, beware, it’s an adult book. Meaning adult content. With that let’s go on.
I really am grateful that the very VERY slow character development and progression of Gabrielle. I was so #teamgabrielle from book one. This book seals his transformation while still maintaining what makes him Gabriel which I so appreciate! He has come so far in so many ways, and I love the fact that the author really took her time with him. There were some surprising revelations that fit his character once I thought about it but was a bit surprised the author did but it was good!
I have always loved Oliva’s character and I’ve continued to love her throughout the series and again, her character development, not too many changes but total believable changes that were realistic.
I have absolutely loved the complexity of this story. The twists and turns and revelations, the constant mystery throughout the whole series. Just captivating and brilliant. I’ve loved the world-building, the mythology/folklore, and the romance, *sigh* the romance… FINALLY! everything.
Overall this was a great wrap up and I feel completely satisfied in this series and how everything played out.
