Cover Thoughts: I LOVE IT! It totally has the contemporary espionage feel to it!
Grace Blakely is absolutely certain of three things:
1. She is not crazy.
2. Her mother was murdered.
3. Someday she is going to find the killer and make him pay.
As certain as Grace is about these facts, nobody else believes her — so there’s no one she can completely trust. Not her grandfather, a powerful ambassador. Not her new friends, who all live on Embassy Row. Not Alexei, the Russian boy next door, who is keeping his eye on Grace for reasons she neither likes nor understands.
Everybody wants Grace to put on a pretty dress and a pretty smile, blocking out all her unpretty thoughts. But they can’t control Grace — no more than Grace can control what she knows or what she needs to do. Her past has come back to hunt her . . . and if she doesn’t stop it, Grace isn’t the only one who will get hurt. Because on Embassy Row, the countries of the world stand like dominoes, and one wrong move can make them all fall down.
True story…I sat down to read this book at 1am and finished it at 5am. I couldn’t put it down! I was riveted! AAAAND when I finished, I immediately picked up book two and then promptly passed out. *sigh* it’s life.
This book was so fun! I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good spy movie or book. It has a unique premise that will keep you guessing at every turn. Through such books I have a million theories running through my mind at the same time and for the most part I’m usually surprised. This was one of those times!
What I absolutely love about this story was Embassy Row. Different embassies and properties all within walking distance of each other. Add underground tunnels with hidden entries and it just was a perfect setting.
Grace was a fun character. Overall I think I like her. There were times when I had a hard time as I felt maybe her voice came off weird, maybe that would very well could have been just me as I did in fact read this at 1am in the morning. SO I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt. I did like her fearlessness, her hopelessness, her feistiness, her fierceness, she was a good character and I liked that.
I also enjoyed all her friends from the different embassies. Oh they were so much fun. I love stories when characters become friends and then together take on the world. yes. I loved them all.
Alexei was an interesting character and I love the fact that there is so much to him that we don’t really know. It’s been three years since Grace and Alexei have seen each other and a lot has changed. I loved the fact that there is still mystery behind him, I love that he is a good guy who is still very much male but a good male character. two thumbs up to Alexei and he is completely swoon worthy. Cute little Russain dude.
The romance was good, totally can see it coming but doesn’t overwhelm the story which I LOVE, but it’s very subtle which I prefer, plus it doesn’t all come together which I love even more which give more to the characters and the story..I think anyway.
Overall I would totally own this book as I really enjoyed it. I loved the mystery, suspense, political intrigue and all that went with it. I can’t wait to get back to reading book 2.
