Cover Thoughts: I AM IN LOVE! This has got to be one of my favorite covers. The colors, the silhouettes, the stars…everything it’s just so beautiful!
A love out of time. A spaceship built of secrets and murder.
Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone—one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship —tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn’t do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed’s hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there’s only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.
If you like the movie The Passengers then you’ll like this book. Luckily for me, this book came out way before that movie and I read this book before I saw that movie. That being said, it’s literally a dystopian space mystery which was totally awesome!
This story is about a spaceship named Godspeed that is transporting frozen people to a new planet, destined to arrive in 300 years from take-off. However, someone is reviving the frozen people in their containers with the intention of killing them by letting them drown in the fluid that helps keep them maintained and alive in their hypersleep containers.
Elder is the future leader of the ship, he is being trained to take over the ship and lead his generation to their new home. But he notices someone is trying to wake up these people that are frozen and is able to save one. Amy, a redhead is so very unlike anybody on the ship due to inbreeding. After being on a ship for supposedly almost 300 years people start to look the same. But Amy is different in every way. Elder is intrigued by Amy and does all that he can to keep her safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, that is not what Amy wants.
There are so many secrets, mysteries and lies going on the ship. It’s never a dull moment while reading and hold your attention. As the story unfolds it becomes more and more complicated and complex and you learn that things aren’t what they seem.
I REALLY liked Elder he is a genuinely good guy who genuinely wants what’s best for the good of his people and to get to the new planet.
Amy, I loved because she was everything different and I liked that. She’s a strong character but not unable to feel. She’s angry, sad, hurt about being woken up early and wants to find out why. Her parents are still frozen and she fears they will be woken up as well and when she finds out that being woken up wasn’t an accident things quickly plunge.
Overall this was one of the first sci-fi that I read and it was better than I thought. Even though the cover is what made me pick it up as well as it being a romance, it is NOT a romance book. There is possible romance but it’s more of a slight undertone. It is not the main focus of the story which I love.
