Cover Thoughts: I like it, fierce attractive girl wielding a fire-y sword and a ball of fire in her hand, what’s not to like? It’s pretty darn cool!
Catalia “Cat” Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice…
Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he’s ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.
Oh my word, this book started of soo good, I couldn’t put it down! what an adventure! I LOVED IT! so why 3 stars???? what the heck? that doesn’t make sense! well… 3/4 through and the book plummeted…. gag.. let me explain…
Alright, this story is about a girl, Cat who has amazing powers and an insane history/background. We slowly learn about her throughout the book which I really enjoyed. She is found at a circus as one who reads fortunes. When she is found out to be a Kingmaker (someone who can tell if someone is lying or not) she is “kidnapped” or whisked away to help a newly revolutionized kingdom. I really liked her because she is fierce, strong-willed, powerful, sassy, sarcastic, funny, loyal, protective etc.
Enter Griffin. Griffin the Beta Alpha (2nd in command) of this newly revolutionized kingdom, He took over the kingdom after he and the people got sick of being treated the way they were. He placed his sweet sister on the throne so he could go out and protect and serve the kingdom. In order to uphold their place he went looking for a Legend, a Kingmaker. I liked him because he was strong, protective, loyal, kind yet brutal, good, he is just a good man! Just don’t try and fight him or anyone he’s close to!
I loved this world building, if I’d known it was surrounded with greek mythology and what-not, I would’ve picked up this book sooner! I loved it. I loved the story behind Cat even though at the end of the book there is still much we don’t know and understand about Cat and her past.
What made it plummet? well, the romance killed it. It was find, and had some steamy scenes but about the last quarter of the book it got stupid and ridiculous. It all of a sudden had graphic sex scenes and the “reason” behind it was SO DUMB! It got all weird and sappy and blah. I LIKE romance but I’m all about the power of suggestion and again I felt the reason why certain characters did the dirty was stupid. I all of a sudden lost interest in the characters because I kept rolling my eyes. I mean really?
Overall I LOVED the story and the romance up until the end. boo. not sure if I’ll continue with the series…
